According to Anatoly Yakovenko, the founder and CEO of Solana Labs, Saga is a flagship Android mobile phone designed so that users can operate natively with cryptocurrencies and NFTs, bringing the public closer to Web3. The smartphone is available for pre-order for a $100 and will have a value of $1,000. The distribution will begin in early 2023.
The news were revealed by Yakovenko during an event held in New York City, in which the CEO of Solana Labs revealed that the new device is specially designed to operate with digital assets such as cryptocurrencies and NFTs. It includes a 6.67" OLED display, 12 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, and the latest flagship Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform, the security features of which will enable the Solana Mobile Stack’s Seed Vault.
The new device announced by the Solana team is part of the initiatives presented by various own companies and those outside the cryptocurrency sector, which also contemplated the idea of making mobile devices directly compatible with Blockchain, with native support for applications and use cases that employ such technology.
It is also known that Solana Labs would be investing $10 million in a new fund especially aimed at developers, who will be able to present solutions and use cases that take advantage of the technology designed by Solana Mobile.
Regarding Solana's phone, let's keep in mind that Yakovenko has experience as an engineer at Qualcomm, where he led groups that worked on technology that was later used by companies like Samsung, LG and Google, so he already has a track record and knowledge and notions about manufacturing and designing smartphones.
